6th Conference of International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung disease, Asia Pacific Region (The Union APRC2017)
Thanks for your support
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The 6th Conference of International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung disease, Asia Pacific Region (Union APRC2017) under the main theme of "TB free Asia Pacific -Accelerate Steps toward Healthier Lungs-" was successfully concluded in the presence of Her Imperial Highness Akishino at Tokyo International Forum from 22nd to 25th March 2017 due to your valuable contribution.
We, as organizer of Union APRC2017, would like to express our deepest appreciation for all the support and cooperation we received from participants, chairs and speakers who attended this conference as well as supporting associations and companies.
The purpose of this academic conference was to contribute to the health promotion focusing on tuberculosis and other lung disease in the Asia-Pacific region through the lecture, symposium, research presentation and discussion about a wide variety of issues, such as the measures against tuberculosis, other lung diseases (lung cancer, COPD, asthma), HIV and the health hazards of smoking, also a social system based on epidemiology or legal restraints, enlightenment activities, and cooperation with WHO and other related organizations. For this conference, nearly 800 experts of related fields including around 400 from 37 foreign countries attended and achieved this purpose with active participation.
It has been more than 40 years since Japan last hosted the Union's international conference on tuberculosis. As you may know, even now, 10.4 million people around the world became sick with TB disease and 1.8 million people die of it, of which 60% occurred in Asia-Pacific region. The tuberculosis incidence of our country decreased to 14.4 per 100,000 populations. Even so, we have to continue to make effort for the internal goal to make Japan a low TB incidence country (below 10 per 100,000 population) by 2020, also for controlling TB in Asia and the world considering the reality that 50.3% of tuberculosis patients of Japan aged 20 - 29 years are foreign-born.
Taking advantage of the success of APRC2017, we will focus more energy on the elimination of TB in the world.
Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude once again for your support, continued guidance and encouragement.
